JSON → YAML Converter

Convert JSON to YAML instantly — paste JSON and get clean, human-readable YAML output. Preserves all types: strings, numbers, booleans, arrays, and nested objects. Free, and it runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use the JSON → YAML Converter

1. Paste your JSON in the left panel. It must be valid JSON — use a JSON validator first if unsure.

2. Click Convert. The equivalent YAML appears on the right, ready to copy.

What is it?

JSON and YAML represent the same data structures but in different formats. JSON uses braces and brackets with quoted keys; YAML uses indentation and is more human-readable. YAML is the preferred format for config files (Docker Compose, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Ansible) while JSON is standard for REST APIs.

JSON comments are not supported and are stripped during conversion. YAML null becomes JSON null; booleans, numbers, and strings are preserved exactly.

Benefits

Share structured data with anyone, in any format

CSV output opens directly in Excel and Google Sheets; XML works with legacy enterprise systems; JSON feeds every modern API — convert to whatever format your audience needs.

Bridge incompatible data formats without a custom script

Convert between JSON, CSV, XML, and YAML in one click — the most common inter-system data translation handled instantly, without writing a parser or ETL pipeline.

Inspect, compare, and debug complex JSON structures

Sort, extract, compare, and measure JSON to find unexpected keys, spot structural differences between API versions, and diagnose oversized payloads.

Migrate legacy data to modern formats

Convert XML configs, PHP print_r() dumps, or CSV exports to clean JSON — without writing a one-off migration script that will never be used again.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my JSON conversion lose comments?

JSON does not support comments — they are not valid JSON syntax. If you have commented-out values, remove them before converting.

Can YAML represent everything JSON can?

Yes — YAML is a superset of JSON. Every valid JSON is also valid YAML. The reverse is not true (YAML supports features JSON does not, like comments and multi-line strings).
