PostgreSQL

PostgreSQL (often called Postgres) is a powerful, free and open-source relational database management system known for reliability, standards compliance and advanced features. It has been developed for over 35 years and is used by companies of every size, from start-ups to banks.

Besides standard SQL tables, PostgreSQL supports JSON and JSONB columns, arrays, full-text search, window functions, custom data types and extensions such as PostGIS for maps and pgvector for AI embeddings. It fully supports ACID transactions and uses MVCC so that readers and writers do not block each other.
