Data Warehouse
A data warehouse is a central database designed for analysis and reporting. It collects data from many sources, such as sales, finance and web apps, cleans it and stores its history so that large queries over months or years run quickly.
Warehouses serve OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) workloads: few users running heavy read queries. Everyday application databases serve OLTP (Online Transaction Processing): many small, fast inserts and updates. Data is loaded through ETL or ELT pipelines and is usually organised in star or snowflake schemas. Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift and Azure Synapse are popular data warehouses.
