Alternate Key
An alternate key is a candidate key that was not chosen as the primary key. It still uniquely identifies each row, so it is usually enforced with a UNIQUE constraint.
For example, a students table might use student_id as the primary key while roll_number and email are also unique; roll_number and email are then alternate keys. They are useful for lookups by business identifiers and for preventing duplicate entries.
