List to Code Array

Convert a text list into a JSON, JavaScript, PHP, Python, Java, or C# array with one click. Free, and it runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use the List to Code Array

1. Paste your list of values into the input field — one per line, or separated by commas/semicolons.

2. Choose the input delimiter (Auto-detect works for most cases).

3. Enter an optional variable name used by the generated code.

4. Select your target language and copy the generated array code.

What is it?

Converting a plain text list into a code array by hand is repetitive and error-prone — especially for long lists. This tool automates the process by parsing your delimited input and generating correctly formatted array literals for JSON, JavaScript, PHP, Python, Java, and C#.

Each language uses its own native array syntax: JSON uses double-quoted strings in brackets, PHP uses the modern bracket syntax ([]), Java uses a typed String[] declaration, Python uses a list literal, and C# uses a typed array initializer. All special characters in the values are properly escaped in the output.

Example

Plain text list (one per line)
apple
banana
orange
↓
JavaScript array
const fruits = [
  "apple",
  "banana",
  "orange"
];

Switch the output language tab to generate JSON, PHP, Python, Java, or C# arrays.

Benefits

Convert any list of items into a code array in seconds

Paste values from spreadsheets, docs, or text and get a properly quoted, comma-separated array in JavaScript, Python, PHP, Java, or C#.

Eliminate manual quoting and comma formatting

Automate the tedious work of adding quotes around each item and commas between them for any list length.

Turn a list of IDs, names, or values into seed data instantly

Convert a copied list directly to an array literal for use in SQL seed files, fixtures, or test constants.

Convert brainstormed bullet lists directly to code

Take a whiteboard or doc list and convert it to an enumerable array without any reformatting step in between.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix newlines and commas in the same input?

In auto-detect mode the tool chooses one delimiter — newlines take priority if the input has multiple lines. For mixed formats, clean the input first or choose the comma delimiter manually.

Are leading/trailing spaces stripped from each item?

Yes. Every item is trimmed before being added to the array. Empty items (blank lines or consecutive delimiters) are also discarded.

What happens with quotes inside item values?

Double quotes inside values are automatically escaped to \" so the generated code is always valid. For example, the value say "hi" becomes "say \"hi\"" in the output.

How does the variable name field work for JSON output?

JSON arrays have no variable declaration — the output is a raw array literal. The variable name is only used for JavaScript, PHP, Python, Java, and C# where it becomes the declared variable or array name.
