Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud

A public cloud is run by a provider such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud and shared by many customers, who rent resources on demand and pay for what they use. A private cloud is cloud infrastructure dedicated to one organisation, in its own data centre or hosted, giving more control at higher cost.

A hybrid cloud connects private infrastructure with a public cloud so workloads and data can move between them, for example keeping sensitive data on-premises while using the public cloud for extra capacity. Multi-cloud means using services from more than one public cloud provider.
