Microservices

Microservices is an architecture style in which an application is built as a collection of small, independent services, each responsible for one business function, such as users, orders or payments. Each service runs in its own process, has its own database and talks to others through APIs or messages.

Compared with a monolith, where everything is one large program, microservices can be developed, deployed and scaled independently by separate teams, and one failure does not have to bring down the whole system. The trade-offs are more complex networking, monitoring, data consistency and deployment, usually handled with containers and Kubernetes.
