Malware
Malware (malicious software) is any software designed to harm a device, steal data or gain unauthorised access. It can spread through infected downloads, email attachments, malicious websites, pirated software and USB drives.
Common types include viruses (attach to files), worms (spread by themselves), trojans (pretend to be useful software), ransomware (encrypts files and demands payment), spyware (secretly collects information) and adware. Protection includes keeping software updated, using antivirus, downloading only from trusted sources and keeping backups.
