DDoS Attack
A DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack tries to make a website or online service unavailable by flooding it with more traffic than it can handle. The traffic comes from thousands or millions of devices at once, often hacked computers and IoT devices forming a botnet, which makes it hard to block.
A DoS attack comes from a single source, while a DDoS comes from many. Attacks can target network bandwidth (volumetric attacks), protocols (such as SYN floods) or applications (such as floods of HTTP requests). Protection includes CDNs and DDoS protection services, rate limiting, firewalls and extra capacity.
