Flash Memory
Flash memory is non-volatile storage that keeps data without power and can be electrically erased and rewritten. It has no moving parts, which makes it fast, silent and shock-resistant.
NAND flash is used in SSDs, USB pen drives, memory cards (SD, microSD) and phone storage; NOR flash is used for firmware chips. Each cell can be rewritten only a limited number of times, so drives spread writes evenly (wear levelling). Flash is slower than RAM but much faster than a spinning hard disk.
