How to use the Sitemap Generator Free

1. Enter your site's base URL (e.g., https://example.com).

2. Add URLs one by one, or switch to Bulk Import to paste many paths at once.

3. Set the change frequency and priority per URL, choose which optional fields to include, then download or copy the XML.

4. Upload as sitemap.xml to your website root and submit it in Google Search Console.

What is it?

An XML sitemap lists all the important pages on your website and tells search engine crawlers how often each page changes and how important it is relative to others. Without a sitemap, crawlers may miss pages that aren't linked from other pages — especially on large sites or JavaScript-heavy apps.

The priority value (0.1–1.0) is a hint about relative importance within your site — it doesn't directly affect search rankings. The changefreq tells crawlers how often content typically changes. The lastmod date tells crawlers when the page was last updated, which can help prioritize recrawls of recently changed content. After generating your sitemap, add its URL to your robots.txt file and submit it in Google Search Console for fastest discovery and indexing.

Example

/about · priority 0.8 · monthly
/blog · priority 0.9 · weekly

Benefits

Help search engines discover and index all your pages

Pages not in the sitemap may take weeks longer to be crawled — especially for new sites and recently added content.

Set crawl priority and change frequency hints

Priority and changefreq signals help crawlers allocate crawl budget to your highest-value and most frequently updated pages.

Submit a valid XML sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing

Sitemap submission dramatically speeds up indexing — especially for new domains, new content sections, and recently updated pages.

Generate a complete sitemap from a list of URLs in one step

Paste URLs and get a valid, well-formed XML sitemap immediately — no CMS plugin, no dynamic generator to configure.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I update my sitemap?

Regenerate and resubmit whenever you add, remove, or significantly update pages. For large or frequently changing sites, consider auto-generating the sitemap from your CMS (WordPress, Shopify) or framework (Next.js, Astro, Nuxt all have sitemap plugins or built-in support).

What is the maximum number of URLs in a sitemap?

A single sitemap file can contain up to 50,000 URLs and must be under 50MB uncompressed. For larger sites, create a sitemap index file (sitemap_index.xml) that references multiple individual sitemap files.

Does sitemap priority directly affect Google rankings?

No — priority and changefreq are hints to crawlers, not ranking signals. Google has stated it largely ignores these values. What matters is that your important pages are listed and have accurate lastmod dates.

Should I include every page of my site in the sitemap?

Only include pages you want indexed: canonical pages, articles, product pages, landing pages. Exclude paginated pages (unless canonical), filtered/sorted e-commerce pages, admin pages, thank-you pages, and pages with noindex tags.

How do I submit my sitemap to Google?

Go to Google Search Console → Sitemaps → enter your sitemap URL (e.g., https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml) → click Submit. Also add 'Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml' to your robots.txt file so all crawlers can discover it.
