How to use the Password List Generator
1. Set the number of passwords and the desired length using the controls.
2. Toggle character sets: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
3. Click Generate and copy individual passwords or all of them at once.
What is it?
Generating a batch of strong, random passwords is useful for bulk user account creation, seeding test databases, creating API keys for multiple services, or providing initial passwords for onboarding. Instead of manually inventing passwords, this tool generates cryptographically adequate random strings with your chosen character composition.
Password strength comes from two factors: length and character variety. A 16-character password using all four character sets has approximately 95^16 possible combinations — computationally infeasible to crack by brute force. This tool generates passwords client-side using JavaScript's Math.random() — suitable for all non-cryptographic purposes. For maximum security in production systems, use a dedicated secrets manager.

Use this to bulk-generate temporary passwords for new user accounts, test accounts, or API keys.
Benefits
Seed user databases with strong initial credentials
Generate hundreds of unique, random passwords for onboarding flows, test fixtures, or initial admin account setup.
Create password lists for testing rate limiting and login systems
Supply realistic credential sets to test failed login handling, account lockout, and rate limiting logic in your application.
Generate recovery codes for two-factor authentication flows
Produce lists of unique, single-use backup codes for account recovery — the same pattern used by GitHub and Google Authenticator.
Provision credentials for service accounts and automated clients
Generate strong, unique passwords for each non-human principal in a system — no reuse, no patterns, no human-chosen shortcuts.
Frequently asked questions
How long should passwords be?
NIST now recommends at least 16 characters for user passwords. For service accounts and API keys, 32+ characters is common. Longer passwords are always better — length contributes more to entropy than character complexity.
Are these passwords safe to use directly?
These passwords are generated using Math.random(), which is sufficient for most purposes (test data, initial credentials). For cryptographic keys or secrets that must be provably random, use crypto.getRandomValues() or a dedicated secrets manager (AWS Secrets Manager, HashiCorp Vault).
What characters are included in each set?
A-Z: 26 uppercase letters. a-z: 26 lowercase letters. 0-9: 10 digits. !@#: 25 symbols (!@#$%^&*()-_=+[]{}|;:,.<>?). Using all four sets gives a character space of 87 characters per position.
