How to use the AI API Request Builder
1. Select your AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini) and choose a model.
2. Write your system prompt and user message, then adjust temperature and max tokens.
3. Select your output language (curl, Python, or JavaScript) and copy the ready-to-run code.
What is it?
Building AI API requests from scratch requires knowing each provider's exact endpoint URLs, authentication headers, request body schema, and SDK usage. This builder generates complete, production-ready code for OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, and Google Gemini — covering the three most widely used LLM APIs in enterprise applications.
The generated code uses official SDKs where available and reads API keys from environment variables — the recommended practice for avoiding accidental secret exposure. Copy the output directly into your project; it requires no modification beyond adding your actual API key to the environment.
Example
Provider: OpenAI · Model: gpt-4o · Temp: 0.7 · Max tokens: 1024
curl https://api.openai.com/v1/chat/completions \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $OPENAI_API_KEY" \
-d '{"model":"gpt-4o","messages":[...],...}'API keys are read from environment variables — never hardcode secrets in your code.
Benefits
Generate working curl, Python, and JavaScript code for any AI API
Copy ready-to-run request code for OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini — no SDK documentation reading required.
Switch between AI providers without rewriting your integration
Generate equivalent requests for all major providers from the same parameters — compare provider syntax side by side.
See exactly what your parameter choices look like in the API call
Set temperature, max tokens, and system prompt in the builder and see the exact API request they produce before sending.
Start API integration from working example code, not a blank file
Copy the generated request, adapt the prompt and model, and have a working integration — rather than finding the right boilerplate.
Frequently asked questions
What temperature should I use?
0 for deterministic, factual outputs (data extraction, classification). 0.3-0.7 for balanced outputs (summarization, Q&A). 0.7-1.0 for creative tasks (writing, brainstorming). Values above 1.0 produce very unpredictable outputs and are rarely useful in production.
How do I set the API key?
Set it as an environment variable: export OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-... (bash), $env:OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-... (PowerShell), or add it to your .env file. Official SDKs automatically read from the environment variable — no code change needed.
What is max_tokens?
Max tokens caps the length of the model's response. 256 tokens ≈ 1 paragraph. 1024 tokens ≈ a page of text. 4096 tokens ≈ a long blog post. Note that total tokens (input + output) must fit within the model's context window.
