Router

A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between different networks, choosing the path for each packet based on its destination IP address. Routers connect home and office networks to the internet and link networks together across the internet itself.

A typical home router also combines several functions: it shares one public IP address among many devices using NAT, assigns local addresses with DHCP, provides Wi-Fi, and includes a basic firewall. Unlike a switch, which connects devices within one network, a router connects separate networks.
