Why in-hand salary is less than CTC
CTC (cost to company) is everything your employer spends on you, including money you never see in your monthly salary: the employer's PF contribution and the gratuity provision. Take those out and you get your gross salary. Your take-home is then gross minus your own 12% PF, professional tax, and income tax (TDS) spread over the year.
Assumptions
Basic is taken as 50% of CTC by default, because the Labour Codes require wages to be at least half of total pay. HRA is a share of basic, and the rest of the gross is a special allowance. Gratuity is provisioned at 4.81% of basic. PF can be 12% of full basic or capped at 12% of ₹25,000 (₹3,000 a month), which many employers use. Tax uses FY 2026-27 slabs with the standard deduction, rebate and 4% cess. Your actual payslip may also include bonuses, meal cards, NPS or insurance. Adjust the basic and HRA sliders to match your offer letter.
