Old Tax Regime Calculator (FY 2026-27)
A detailed old-regime breakdown with 80C, 80D, and other deductions itemized separately.
Section 80C is capped at ₹1,50,000 by law — the slider stops there. 80D limits depend on age and whether premiums cover parents; check your policy before assuming the maximum. “Other Deductions” above covers HRA and self-occupied home loan interest (capped at ₹2,00,000).
For a rented-outproperty (different from the self-occupied interest above), interest is deductible against rental income with no cap. If interest exceeds rental income, the resulting loss can offset your other income this year, capped at ₹2,00,000; any excess carries forward. Leave both at ₹0 if you don’t have a let-out property.
Slab-by-Slab Breakdown

| ₹10,00,000 – and above | 30% | ₹75,000 | ₹22,500 |
How the old regime is calculated for FY 2026-27
The old regime applies four slabs from 0% to 30%, with the 0% band extending further for senior (₹3,00,000) and super senior (₹5,00,000) citizens. Taxable income is your gross income minus the ₹50,000 standard deduction, any employer NPS contribution, and whatever you can genuinely claim under 80C (capped at ₹1,50,000), 80D, HRA, home loan interest, and other sections. If taxable income is ₹5,00,000 or below, a full rebate wipes out the tax; just above that line, marginal relief applies so the tax owed never exceeds the amount of income that crossed the threshold.
Self-occupied vs let-out home loan interest
These are treated differently by law. Interest on a loan for a self-occupiedhome is capped at ₹2,00,000 and is folded into “Other Deductions” above. Interest on a loan for a let-out (rented)property has no cap at all — it’s deducted against the rental income when computing house-property income. If that interest exceeds the rent, the resulting loss can offset up to ₹2,00,000 of your other income this year, with any excess carried forward up to eight years.
What's not included
This calculator treats HRA, home loan interest, and other itemized sections as a single combined figure rather than validating each section’s own eligibility rules (for instance, HRA exemption depends on rent paid, basic salary, and city of residence). For an actual filing, verify the final numbers with a tax professional or incometax.gov.in.
