|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25% | ₹10,000.00 | ₹25.00 | ₹10,025.00 |
| 3% | ₹10,000.00 | ₹300.00 | ₹10,300.00 |
| 5% | ₹10,000.00 | ₹500.00 | ₹10,500.00 |
| 18% | ₹10,000.00 | ₹1,800.00 | ₹11,800.00 |
| 40% | ₹10,000.00 | ₹4,000.00 | ₹14,000.00 |
How to add GST
GST = price × rate / 100 and total = price + GST. On ₹1,000 at 18%, GST is ₹180 and the total is ₹1,180.
How to remove GST (reverse GST)
When a price already includes GST, divide instead of subtracting a percentage: price before GST = total / (1 + rate/100). ₹1,180 at 18% → ₹1,180 / 1.18 = ₹1,000, so GST is ₹180. Taking 18% off ₹1,180 would give the wrong answer, ₹967.60.
CGST, SGST and IGST
A sale within the same state is split equally into Central GST and State GST (UTGST in union territories). A sale to another state carries the full rate as Integrated GST. The total tax is the same either way. Only who collects it changes.
