How FD maturity is calculated

Most Indian banks compound fixed deposit interest quarterly: A = P × (1 + r/4)4t, where r is the annual rate and t the tenure in years. Quarterly compounding is why a 7% FD actually yields about 7.19% a year. Choose Payout if you take the interest out every month or quarter. Nothing is reinvested then, so you earn simple interest.

Senior citizen rates and TDS

Banks usually pay senior citizens 0.25%–0.50% more, so enter the senior rate your bank quotes. TDS of 10% applies once FD interest from one bank crosses ₹50,000 in a financial year (₹1,00,000 for senior citizens). TDS is not an extra tax. You claim it back or adjust it when you file your return.
