Expand a year in the schedule and click + Payon any month to add a part payment there — you’ll enter the amount and that month’s own charge % right there, since banks often tier the charge down over the loan’s life (for example 4% in the first 2 years, 3% in year 3, 2% after that). Under RBI’s 2025 directions, most floating-rate individual loans sanctioned after 1 January 2026 carry zero part payment charge — enter 0% if that applies to you.

Updated schedule with your part payments

Hover or tap a year to see the exact principal / interest / balance split. Grouped by year — expand a year in the table below for the month-by-month breakdown.

How part payments actually work here

Every part payment you add is applied as a lump sum in that exact month, on top of your regular EMI. The “Actual” box always shows your original EMI and tenure, untouched — below it, the Reduce Tenure and Reduce EMI cards show what each part payment buys you either way: keep the EMI the same and close the loan sooner, or keep the payoff date the same and pay less each month. Tap either card to make the schedule and chart below reflect that choice. You can add part payments in multiple different months to see the combined effect, and remove any of them instantly to compare.

Entering a payment as a percentage

Many lenders cap how much of the outstanding balance you can part-pay in a single transaction — commonly 25%. Since that limit is expressed as a percentage, not a rupee figure, each “+ Pay” form lets you toggle between entering a flat amount or a percentage of that month’s outstanding balance — the calculator shows you both the resulting rupee amount and the charge together, so you can see exactly what you’re committing to before adding it.

Why the charge is entered per payment

Lenders that still charge a part-payment fee (many floating-rate individual loans now carry zero charge under RBI’s 2025 rules) typically tier it down the longer you’ve held the loan — for example 4% in the first two years, 3% in year three, 2% after that. Since the rate depends on whenyou’re paying, you enter it alongside the amount at the moment you add each part payment, rather than as one fixed rate for the whole loan. GST (18% by default) is then added on top of that fee — GST applies to the service charge itself, not to your outstanding loan balance. This calculator nets all of it against the interest you actually save, so “Net Savings” reflects what part-prepaying is really worth after costs, not just the headline interest reduction.

Common mistake

Assuming every part payment is automatically worth making. If your lender charges a meaningful fee and you’re part-paying a small amount very late in the loan (when most of the EMI is already principal, not interest), the charge can outweigh the interest saved. Check that Net Savings stays positive before going ahead.
