How to calculate a discount
Sale price = MRP × (1 − discount/100). A 40% discount on ₹2,999 is ₹1,199.60 off, so you pay ₹1,799.40. To work backwards from a sale price, use discount % = (MRP − sale price) / MRP × 100.
Stacked discounts are not added together
“Flat 40% + extra 10% off” means 10% off the already-discounted price. The total is 1 − 0.6 × 0.9 = 46%, not 50%. Bank-card offers and coupons usually work the same way, so this calculator applies the extra discount on top.
